What can Evergreen offer my child?
When you and your child join Evergreen, you become part of a community, an extended family, a co-operative learning experience. Your child will enjoy smaller class sizes, enhanced parental participation, learning at her/his ability, individual attention, grouping of students and confidence building.

How is Evergreen funded?
Evergreen Independent school receives funding from the Province supplemented with tuition fees and fund raising efforts. Do the teachers at Evergreen have a BC teaching qualifications? Yes. The Evergreen teaching staff all hold BC teaching qualifications, either from the BC College of Teachers or the Ministry of Education (Independent School Branch)

What does it cost to send my child to Evergreen?
Not as much as you might think. Rates are even lower for siblings! Check out the schedule of fees!

How does the curriculum differ from public school?
Evergreen Independent School is required to meet the same learning outcomes as all BC elementary schools. However, there is an emphasis on theme teaching, taking responsibility and “learning how-to-learn”.

Are there field trips?
Yes. Fun and educational field trips are an integral part of the Evergreen curriculum from Kindergarten on.

Do I get a tax credit for the tuition fee I pay?
You will be provided with a tax receipt for the kindergarten year that can be used for tax purposes.

Does Evergreen Independent School have any religious affiliation?
No. Evergreen is not a religious based education but does emphasize important skills such as cooperation, self esteem building, problem solving and conflict resolution.

Who runs the Evergreen Independent School?
Evergreen is run by a Society comprised of Evergreen parents and an elected board of Directors. The curriculum is set by the Province and enhanced and guided by the teaching staff.

How much parental participation is allowed or required?
At Evergreen, parental participation is expected and encouraged both in the classroom and on committees including Enrollment, Fund raising and school maintenance. At Evergreen everyone is welcome to take part.

Are there any special academic programs?
Good quality teachers and small classes allow for easy identification of children who would benefit from more challenging studies. The curriculum is tailored to meet the capabilities of your child and you are encouraged to discuss with the teachers how to adapt the teaching program for your child.

Does Evergreen have sporting facilities?
Yes. Physical education facilities include a playing field, a climbing playground and gymnasium. P.E. At Evergreen is a daily activity.

Upon completion at Evergreen, will my child enter the middle school system with the same social and academic skills as other children his or her age?
Yes. Evergreen students follow the standard B.C. Curriculum. A variety of self-esteem building enhancements prepare students to enjoy and excel in their continuing education. Our experience to date is that Evergreen alumni are confident an do well in secondary school. Indeed, the individual planning and emphasis on “learning how-to-learn” provides the tools required for the learning method used at Francis Kelsey Secondary School.
